BIO

BEGINNINGS

I’m of Madeiran ancestry, born in 1978 in the eastern suburbs of Johannesburg, South Africa. After high school, I studied Marketing part-time while working at an electronics factory. I’m presently working for a university in Melbourne, Australia.

INSPIRATION

My writing style was first influenced by war poetry and lyrics of my favourite singer-songwriters and indie bands. My muses are my husband, son and daughter, and our menagerie of Bengals and Boxers. I’m also inspired by music, travel, art and french wine.

SHOWER SONGS

I published my first collection of poetry, Shower Songs in 2011. The title poem, ‘A Shower Song’ was published in the poetry and verse anthology, ‘Queer Episodes’ in 2013.

“Poems to steal everyone’s heart. Emotive and lyrical. The writing is deceptive: His style is approachable and effortless to read but the underlying emotion is devastatingly powerful.” – Trevor James

“Ferreira’s words, like the lyrics of some sly indie rock song, tumble elegantly onto the page and paint a picture of a man who is reaching toward wholeness, love, and forgiveness.” – Amber Decker
